1.Marriage
Marrying a Japanese citizen
To marry in Japan, submit a “Marriage Registration” to the municipal office of the place where they live.
Foreign citizens need to obtain a “Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage” and a “Birth Certificate” from their embassy or consulate.
If you cannot obtain a “Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage” from the embassy, prepare documents to prove that you are able to marry.
Proof of documentation and Japanese translations are also required so that a Japanese person can understand the content.

2.Divorce
To divorce from your spouse, submit a “Divorce Registration” to the municipal office

3.Childbirth
When a baby is born in Japan, submit a “Birth Notification” to the municipal office.
The “Birth Notification” must be submitted within 14 days after childbirth.

4.Death
When a family member has passed away in Japan, submit a “Death Notification” to the municipal office within seven days from the day you are informed of their death.
